š§” Sabbath Stillness ā A Place to Land
Ā
I have a Sunday nap planned.
Already.
There isnāt a time on the calendar, but there is a location. And if Bo and Honey would kindly scooch over, I intend to be there. š
We bought a couch this week.
An unplanned couch.
Donāt tell Rebeccaā¦š³
Our seating situation had room for about two peopleāand ācomfortablyā was a generous description. For a house that loves to gather, we were coming up mighty short on places to actually settle in.
And I finally hit the wall.
Iād love to tell you I approached the situation with quiet grace and a carefully measured floor plan.
I did not.
I lost it. The seating situation had officially outstayed its welcome.
And this is what I foundā¦a place to land. Room to stretch out. Room for Mike. Room for company to stay a little longer without somebody having to sit like theyāre waiting at the DMV.
A cozy little couch pit.

Mercy yes. š§”
Bo and Honey promptly took possession. No contribution toward the purchase. No assistance moving furniture. Just an immediate understanding that we had done something wonderful forĀ them.
Youāre welcome, children. š
š§Ā Compass Heading: Make Room for Rest

Looking at these pictures, I love how much ordinary life is still happening around us. (Pay no mind to the old furniture in pieces - waiting around to be delivered to someone elseās home)
š¤Ŗ

The kitchen is right there. The work is right there. All the things that keep this house humming havenāt disappeared just because we sat down.
But there we are.
Together. Feet up. Dogs settled.
And for a little while, nothing needs to happen next.
That part feels especially good.
š¤Ā Compass Bearing
Sometimes I get so accustomed to making something work that I stop noticing how uncomfortable it has become.
I scoot. Adjust. Work around it. Tell myself itās fine.
Until āfineā comes out a little louder than intended. š¬
I would like to get better at noticing what I needĀ before I hit the wall. A little space. A little help. A place to sit comfortably beside my husband at the end of the day.
There is room to grow there.
And apparently, now there is room to put my feet up while I consider it.
šæĀ Compass Thought
This Sunday, Iām looking forward to enjoying this little corner of our home.
A blanket. A slow afternoon. Mike close by. Whatever small portion of the cushions the dogs are willing to release.
And that nap.
Ohhhh, that nap.
I want to receive the quiet with gratitude instead of immediately filling it with something useful. To let a comfortable afternoon be enough without turning it into preparation for the next busy thing.
God already knows what the coming week holds. I can spend a little time with Him today without trying to get ahead of all of it.
The kitchen will still be there when I wake up.
I have checked. It is very loyal.

š Compass Verse
āReturn to your rest, O my soul,
For the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.ā
ā Psalm 116:7, NASB 1995
š Compass Prayer
Lord, thank You for the everyday comforts I sometimes hurry pastāfor home, for people to share it with, and for a quiet place to rest. Help me recognize when I need to pause before frustration does the talking. Settle my thoughts today, and teach me to enjoy Your goodness without rushing toward the next thing. In Jesusā name, amen.
Happy Sabbath, friends.
May you find a little room to settle in today.
Iāll be over here negotiating couch space with two creatures who have never once paid a furniture bill. š§”
Find your way home.
